Jim tinger, lcsw

 

Jim Tinger (he/him) believes in an empathetic approach and employs a strength-based perspective that facilitates a caring and nurturing environment to clients of all ages.

Jim enjoys working with adults and specializes in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, and those with mild autism, to name a few. He has worked in substance abuse counseling, and has facilitated groups in a variety of settings. As youth program director for the Town of New Paltz since 1995, Jim has worked extensively in counseling adolescents and families, working in schools, and offering social emotional programming through a variety of programs. 

His work as a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) trainer is among Jim’s favorite contributions, leading an 8-hour workshop on how adults can approach a young person who may be experiencing a mental health issue. He’s also trained in Teen Mental Health Aid, which trains adolescents in how to help their peers.
