Sarah Douglas, LMHC, SEP, Clinical Group Supervisor
Sarah Douglas (she/her/hers) provides a gentle and supportive environment for clients to express themselves and explore the areas of their lives that feel stuck or cause them distress. She works with clients to increase resiliency, cultivate compassion towards self and others, and develop new ways of being that are aligned with wellness and relationship goals.
After entering the mental health field as a facilitator of trauma-focused therapeutic drama and expressive art groups, Sarah returned to school to obtain her mental health counseling degree at Northwestern University. There, she was trained in person-centered, psychodynamic psychotherapy, including the incorporation of cognitive-behavioral interventions. Subsequently, she became certified in Somatic Experiencing®, a body-based approach to healing trauma by restoring balance to the nervous system.
Sarah’s approach draws upon mindfulness, imagination, spirituality, movement, and above all, her client’s inner wisdom and innate capacity to heal. She works collaboratively with clients, recognizing they are the experts on their own lives. Sarah believes a person's inner experiences are best understood in the context of systemic, socio-political, and historical conditions that impact our bodies and minds. She utilizes and anti-oppressive framework, and is committed to showing up in a humble and affirming way for clients of all identities.
