Talya Moonheart, MSW Candidate, Clinical Trainee
Talya Moonheart (they/them) is a somatic psychotherapist in training who believes deeply in our innate capacities to heal both individually and collectively. They view psychotherapy as an opportunity to slow down, gaze inward, so we may feel more connected to ourselves and to others. Talya offers an eclectic approach that draws from psychodynamic theory, Somatic Experiencing, attachment theory, and liberation health.
With the understanding that being human is a complex experience, Talya offers a therapeutic container in which the unknown is welcome so that new understandings of ourselves and our relationships may emerge. Talya provides a space for clients to explore their intersecting identities/lineages and how those relate to oppressive institutions, systems, and beliefs. Talya has supported clients navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, intimate partner violence, self-esteem quandaries, major life transitions, gender expansion, and curiosities around sexuality and intimacy.
Talya’s decades long background as a dance and performance artist deeply influences their commitment to exploring presence. The existential question of how to be a human living a life has oriented Talya towards practices such as experimental dance, somatic abolition, and therapy, all of which prioritize courageous honesty in the here-and-now. This forms the bedrock of the therapeutic container that Talya strives to co-create with clients.
Talya has completed advanced level Somatic Experiencing training and is currently completing their Masters in Social Work at Smith College.
