Thayer Kyusan Case, LCSW-R, Managing Director, Clinical Supervisor, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner

Thayer Kyusan Case (he/him/his) is Director of Maverick Psychotherapy Group and works with children (through Play Therapy), adults of all ages, and families. He has particular expertise in treating grief, anxiety, depression, attachment issues, ADHD, sensory integration and mild autistic spectrum issues, stress reduction, issues with spirituality, and trauma (Chronic and Acute PTSD). Thayer works very closely with parents and children in various ways – both individually and in family modalities. He invites all aspects of human experience into therapy. Thayer also pays particular attention to how intergenerational and cultural trauma and oppression surface in the clinical space. Thayer views psychotherapy as facilitating a process of empowerment and discovery, unfolding in a safe place, focused on how we experience, and ultimately free ourselves from our habitual patterns in the body, thoughts and emotions.

Trauma Resolution: Drawing on his 12 years of training in Somatic Experiencing ®, body based psychotherapy, and decades of intensive meditation, Thayer works with many categories of trauma: car accidents, falls, surgical trauma, sexual and physical abuse, natural disasters, war and other forms of violence. In addition, Thayer also works with attachment-related trauma (developmental trauma) in the context of entire families or as individuals, as well as those who suffer from chronic pain or syndromes such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Thayer has particular expertise in working with Military Veterans and Law Enforcement as well.

Somatic Experiencing ® Personal Sessions, Consultations and Consult Groups: Thayer has been assisting at the SE trainings for many years and has been involved with the Somatic Experiencing Institute as an advisor to the development of the Crisis Stabilization and Safety program. Thayer is able to provide personal sessions, consults and group consults at all levels and is able to provide instruction for the Beginning I DVD course.

Parent Coaching and Groups: Thayer understands that parenting is a deep challenge to even those with the healthiest backgrounds, particularly in our current climate of stimulation, speed, and confusing expectations for both parents and kids. For those with instability or insecurity of any kind, raising children can be extremely difficult. Thayer helps parents meet these challenges in traditional therapy and as a coach/consultant.
